Writing

This page aspires to be a resource for me and anyone else wandering through these parts.  It also ought to be a bit of a memoir of my path to becoming a published author (not there, yet!).

Works With Homes!

FLUSHED!

Ten-year-old Lucas has heard enough of his plumber father’s warnings about sewer-sailing pirate abductions—too bad Dad’s threats turn up true and getting flushed really stinks.

Captain Flatus Codswallup needs Lucas’s help getting his ship seaworthy, and flushes him as a new recruit. Lucas is happy for a vacation, but it’s not all toots and giggles in the sewer and the annoying first mate threatens mutiny behind the captain’s back. Lucas must decide between saving Flatus’s butt and getting home without pink eye. But when the pirate ship falls under attack, Lucas learns who Flatus’s sworn enemies are: plumbers.

Plumbers like… Dad! Now Lucas has to choose a side that doesn’t get everybody killed as plumbers and pirates meet in the messiest battle the sewers have ever seen.

This is a silly middle grade adventure with pirates complete at 40,000 words. Found a home with Astraea Press! Working on edits for them as of October 2013 :)

Works in Progress

DOLLHOUSE PIXIES

With a dead mom and a depressed dad, sixteen-year-old college student Natalie is only hanging on by a thread when a pixie shows up in her mother’s dollhouse begging for help rallying her kind against bloodthirsty fairies.

This is a young adult urban fantasy novel complete at 90,000 words. I stopped querying and am doing some rewrites, and my old friend Emily is doing an amazing job on copy editing.

HAOLE LOVE
This is an adult fiction-romance novel set on the Big Island of Hawaii.   This one keeps getting picked up and set back down, but my first draft was finally completed August 2012 at 130,000 words.  I think I'm going to do a complete overhaul of this, and rewrite it as a young adult novel.

IT WAS DESTINY
This is a completed (I think) short story of 700 words.  It's a bit of a creepy one involving a robot that learns to kill things all too well.

DOGGED DOG WALKERS
This is a kid's novella, maybe a chapter book  I still want to do some editing and rewriting to spice up the plot.  It's 10,000 words and the characters are based on my brother and sister, Caden and Keira.

PIRATES VS. NINJAS
This is a project started in 2011 involving two of my favorite groups of people, pirates and ninjas.  This is probably a career-spanning project with my best effort towards world-building and character-building. I want this to be my best project ever.

My Completed Projects

I have had an article published in the University of Hawaii College of Pharmacy Magazine, Winter 2010 edition.  It's in the "Letters Home" column regarding an outreach Stan and I did in Saipan at PHI Pharmacy. Scroll down to page 31 if you click the link below.

I plan to link all the wonderful web resources for writers I've come across, and perhaps make some resources of my own someday.
